Trees
Due to the warmer soil and cooler air, trees are more likely to do well when planted in the fall. Warm soil prompts quicker root growth and cooler air eliminates the need for more moisture. Some trees you can plant this fall are: maple, linden, sycamore, elm, spruce, and pine.
Cool-Season Vegetables
Harvest spring greens consisting of spinach, arugula, mustard greens, and leaf lettuce. Fall is also a great time to get your radishes, beets, and turnips into the ground. All of these vegetables thrive on the cooler temperatures.
Grass
Plant new grass or patch up your lawn in the fall. Certain grasses such as Kentucky bluegrass, ryegrass, bentgrass, and more, are best to plant in the fall. Be sure to cover with compost or straw after planting and be consistent with watering until temperatures drop to freezing.
