Top Kitchen Trends For 2018

More than ever homeowners are striving for clutter free kitchens with fewer items on their counter tops. Clutter free kitchen designs are a must for many remodeling their kitchens. Along with cleared counter tops their organizational habits within the kitchen are including recycling systems that are becoming a largely focused area of redesign. According to Houzz the following percentiles are based on a survey study of over 1,700 users who are planning, recently completed, or have found that much of the renovation is based on keeping the kitchen decluttered.

Clutter-Free Counters
Homeowners are beginning to clear their counter tops, requiring storage to become more prevalent throughout. Storage solutions are becoming one of the biggest fads of 2018, giving kitchens a whole new look and ease of use. With more counter space available in the kitchen, the more room their is to incorporate play, work, and everyday life. One of the biggest requests in these kitchens are revolving cabinets that feature waste and recycling baskets, spice organization, tray storage, and deep drawer storage.

Surfaces Engineered to Last
With all the space provided on counter tops, their visual appearance is becoming more crucial to the homeowner. The counter tops are becoming refreshed with several kinds of material and becoming a main feature for kitchen renovations. At 43% the most popular material home owners are choosing for their counter tops is engineered quarts. Granite is coming in at a popularity of 34% and have been in decline for about three years. Engineered quarts is most used in the urban and suburban areas, but granite is ranking as the most popular in the rural areas. To add to the amount of counter top space that kitchens are coming equip with, two out of five homeowners are adding kitchen islands to their plans.

Smarter Assistants
Incorporating new electronics to the kitchen has been at an all time high the last three years. Although many homeowners are deciding to add smart features, the demand for having a TV incorporated into the plans has been on a decline. These electronic upgrades, also known as home assistants are becoming more popular at a rate of 22% a quarter. Among these upgrades, wireless and voice-controlled appliances are becoming increasingly more popular.

White is Still Hot
The clean and pure look of white throughout a kitchen is still one of the top styles homeowners are trying to achieve. The all-white everything kitchen finishes are continuing to grow in it's popularity. Up 6% in popularity from last year the color white is being integrated within backslashes, counter tops, and walls. The rural areas are not tagging along with this ideal, but rather going their own direction with the larger array of colors being added to their kitchen plans.

Transitioning Styles
Eighty-seven percent of homeowners are choosing to renovate with plans unique from the last two years. Instead of a modern look some are going for, these homeowners are deciding to go with a traditional style making them transitional. About half of the homeowners remodeling their kitchens are deciding to go with the L-shaped layout whereas the other half is going with a more traditional U-shape in their kitchens.

Among the different obsessions homeowners are implementing within their renovations here is a list of statistics that show what homeowners are focusing on in their everyday life:

  • 75% Decluttering the counters
  • 66% Putting things away
  • 49% Recycling
  • 48% Cooking from scratch
