Winter Cleaning Ideas and Tips

Vermont Winter cleaning tips

During the long winter months sometimes things seem messier and less organized. Here are some tips to help get you started on that "Spring Cleaning" now, that way you will have more time to enjoy the warm sunshine!

  1. If your pots and pans end up in all the wrong cupboards you may have to many of them. Or you can take this time to re-arrange all your kitchen cupboards and storage areas. Throw out or giveaway everything you don't need.
  2. Go through your spice, canned food and box cupboards and reorganize them. If you find any expired items throw them out, if something is still good but you really are never going to eat it, give to the food shelf.
  3. Start by going through your closet and put all your old stuff into a giveaway box. If you haven't worn it in a couple years it is safe to say it can be added to the box.
  4. Take a few minutes to clean your boots or shoes and spray them down with protectant. This will keep them from wearing out to fast and the will be ready for storage once the weather warms up.
  5. Wash your pillows, comforters and blankets, mattress covers, bed-skirts. These items tend to not get washed as regularly as they should, by starting to wash them up now you can get rid of some of those dust bunnies.
  6. Get a head start on spring cleaning but wiping down all your windows and even start washing all the draperies and window coverings.
  7. Wash and disinfect your garbage cans and wastebaskets. Let the garbage cans sit/soak for an hour or so, then pour out the contents and scrub the insides with a stiff bristle brush to remove any residue.
  8. Start cleaning up the clutter! The more junk and piles of paperwork/mail you have lying around the more places dust lives. Start going through room by room and organize each space. If you haven't used something in 3 or more months you probably do not need it keep out. Either give it away or put it in storage .
