4 TIPS TO PREVENT THEFT DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Tips to prevent theft during the holidays

During the holidays many are consumed in getting ready for the seasonal festivities and spending time with loved ones. Families venture out and visit others to cherish the Christmas season together. Although this time together can be a blessing, it can also leave room for someone to break into your house while it is vacant.

Often during the holiday season thieves are tuned intowhen it is a good time to make their move. They figure out when you're home and when you're away. They realize that people may leave their homes and vehicles unattended and they know it can be the best time to score some of their own holiday cheer. Here are some tips to ensure you leave your beloved possessions well protected in case of break ins and theft.

1. Keep your lights on.
One of the best way to ward off these intruders is by leaving your house lights on. This makes an intruder think you're still home and it will usually force them to avoid your house. Using an automatic timer on the Christmas lights during the evenings is a great cover to convince people you are home for the holidays. Have someone you trust check your mailbox throughout the week to fool these thieves into thinking you're around.

2. Leave your shopping bags out of sight.
Try to think the way someone would who was peering into your home. Leave your shopping bags out of sight so that someone doesn't target your home as somewhere to make out with holiday luxuries. Without the temptation of shopping bags in view they may choose to go else where. One way to be sure these bags are not in view is by putting them in the trunk of your vehicle. Make sure your vehicle is locked and parked in a well lit area.

3. Protect all entryways.
Remember that your front door shouldn't be the only secure door to your house. More then likely a break in will happen at the back or side of a building where they believe they are out of sight. Be sure to lock all other doors and windows in which a thief could potentially enter.

4. Give yourself peace of mind.
One can take all obvious precautions and still return to find that someone broke in. One way to give yourself peace of mind while you're away and be sure your belongings are secure is by investing in insurance. Whether your're renting or you own your own home, insurance will be a great way to guarantee you will be able to replace anything that might get stolen or damaged.

Never leave your house without taking what precautions you can. No one wants to come back to their home and vehicle in shambles.
